Work undertaken at the masterplanning stage can have a significant impact on the energy performance of the proposed buildings and the amount of daylight and sunlight that is available to them. Our skilled and knowledgeable team are able to support masterplans by providing solar masterplanning studies and sustainability assessments.
By undertaking a solar masterplanning study, the BD Practice team can advise on the scale, mass, and spacing of the proposed development to create a sustainable and high performance design.
We can also advise on suitable energy and sustainability targets at masterplanning stage.

The BD Practice team provides a range of services to support residential and commercial planning applications of all scales. We assist in providing supporting documents to planning applications across the country, including in London where many of the assessments that we undertake are requested by the London Plan.
We specialise in daylight and sunlight assessments using the award winning LightUp Analytics software, which enables us to analyse the daylight and sunlight levels of a proposed development and to quantify the development’s impact on nearby existing buildings. The results can be used to improve designs and to support planning applications.
We provide advice on measures to improve daylight and sunlight levels, measures to mitigate overheating risk, and measures to reduce energy demand. Thus, we support architects in creating high performing, healthy buildings that strike the balance between these sometimes conflicting aims of sustainable design.
BD Practice provides cost effective design advice that can help achieve a successful planning application, and also provide a healthy and sustainable environment where people can live and work.
